    Students in the combined Applied Kinesiology B.S./Athletic Training M.S. program will develop a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, psychology, patient assessment, medical terminology, and injury management through rigorous coursework. The focused science-based curriculum prepares students for the Athletic Training M.S. (accelerated 3+2) which provides the opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years. Students are well prepared to work as an athletic trainer in a variety of settings, such as high schools, colleges, clinics, industry, and professional sports. 

    Admissions criteria for M.S. in Athletic Training

    1. Preference will be given to a GPA of 3.0 and higher on a 4.0 scale for undergraduates.
       
    2. Evidence of a minimum grade of C in the following college courses or course equivalent:
    • Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab) – 4 credits
    • Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab) – 4 credits
    • Biology – 3 credits
    • Biomechanics – 3 credits
    • Chemistry – 3 credits
    • Exercise Physiology – 3 credits
    • General Psychology – 3 credits
    • Physics I – 3 credits
    • Public Health – 3 credits
    • Sports Psychology – 3 credits
    • Statistics – 3 credits

  • Attach a chart showing a sample four-year program schedule.  A separate program schedule will need to be included for each concentration, where appropriate.

    Click on this link, then open the 4 Year Program Schedule form.  This information will also be included, as a requirement, when completing the appropriate SUNY/SED forms.  The program schedule is not needed when creating a new minor or certificate program.

    The Applied Kinesiology B.S./Athletic Training M.S. provides students with the opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years. The Applied Kinesiology Program is a focused science-based curriculum that allows students to complete the necessary coursework to adequately prepare them for direct entry into our Master of Science Athletic Training Program.  

    Finally, the proposed curriculum schema allows students to focus on the coursework required to be adequately prepared to be a successful clinician upon graduation.

    1.  First, you will want to build courses into your program.  Click on the View Curriculum Courses icon to start your build.  You should click on Add Course (to add new courses), or click on Import Course (to add existing courses).

    2.  Second, you will want to build cores into your program.  Click on the View Curriculum Schema icon to start your build.  Click on Add Core to start building your core sections.  Once the cores are created, you will add courses (from the previous step) to them.

    Most likely, you will not use the Import Core feature, as this only allows you to import shared core(s).

    Applied Kinesiology Student Learning Outcomes: 

    Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

    1. Demonstrate academic proficiency in the foundational knowledge needed to successfully gain admittance into a professional athletic training program     

    1. Demonstrate the ability to gather, synthesize, and critically analyze information and implement effective written and oral communication skills to disseminate that information. 

    1. Identify and apply discipline-specific skills and theoretical concepts critical to interacting with patients within athletic training clinical settings. 

    1. Demonstrate an applied understanding of the form and function of the human body to evaluate and promote health and performance.

  • STEP 4.  When you have completed this form, you must Launch the proposal.

    To Launch:  scroll to the top portion of this pane, click on the blue right arrow icon to Launch your proposal.


    STEP 5.  Approve your proposal.  When you have completed the proposal, as the originator you must Approve your proposal.  By approving your proposal, this will move it to the next step in the approval process.  To approve, scroll to the top of the right pane and click on the Decisions icon (5th icon).  Click Approve then click Make My Decision.
